Seven Iranian exiles expelled from France last month were flown back to Paris from Gabon, a day after France reversed its decision to expel them. In addition, five Iranians and three Turkish Kurds also expelled in December arrived in Madrid from Gabon, where their appeals to return to France will be considered. France expelled the 15, all linked to the Moujahedeen group opposed to Iran’s Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, apparently as part of an arrangement to secure the release of two French hostages in Lebanon. In return for lifting the expulsion order, the Moujahedeen agreed to end hunger strikes by the exiles and their sympathizers in France, Gabon, the United States and Britain.
