College Highlights : Hardman, Defense Lead Moorpark, 65-53

Karina Hardman scored 26 points but it was the Moorpark defense that made the difference in a 65-53 victory over Bakersfield in a Western State Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Moorpark.
Moorpark had 14 steals and used a full-court press to neutralize Bakersfield’s height advantage. “I think our press really hurt them,” Moorpark Coach Gary Abraham said. “We caused quite a few turnovers.”
Hardman finished with 26 points, the 12th consecutive game in which she has scored at least 20 points, and Michele Brown added 16 points and 5 assists.
Cal Lutheran 77, Southern California College 71--Brenda Lee made four free throws in the final minute to lead the Regals to a Golden State Athletic Conference victory.
CSUN 63, Knox Raiders 60--Julie Arlotto scored 20 points for CSUN in an exhibition victory over the Australian Junior National team at CSUN.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Bakersfield 78, Moorpark 77--The Raiders made only 12 of 35 field-goal attempts in the second half of a Western State Conference loss at Moorpark.
Southern California College 91, Cal Lutheran 82--Steve deLaveaga scored 27 points and Jeff Logsdon added 16 for the Kingsmen in a Golden State Athletic Conference loss at Southern California.
WOMEN’S SWIMMIMG
Cal State Northridge 146, UC Irvine 68--Jude Kylander, Lisa Dahl and Jeanna Giessinger each won two events for the Matadors (6-0) in a nonconference dual meet.
MEN’S SWIMMIMG
Cal State Northridge 118, UC Irvine 97--Ted Hollahan won two freestyle events to lead the Matadors in a nonconference dual meet.
