Deputies captured two inmates who escaped from the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles using a 50-foot garden hose to slide down from a third-story roof, authorities said Friday.
Mark Guerrero, 24, of El Monte was apprehended with his girlfriend at a Motel 6 in Rosemead early Friday, Deputy Richard Dinsmoor said. The girlfriend, Angie Morales, 21, was arrested for investigation of helping Guerrero escape, Dinsmoor said.
Late Thursday night, Louie Ayala, 23, was found hiding in a Norwalk attic, sheriff’s spokesman Hal Grant said. Rosie Garcia, 21, also was arrested at the residence.
Investigators declined to say what led them to the Norwalk attic, but Ayala’s last address before entering jail was in the suburban town.
Ayala was awaiting trial on robbery charges and Guerrero was jailed pending a transfer to state prison for a conviction on burglary charges, Grant said.
The men apparently escaped from the jail by tying the hose to a blanket. The hose was seen dangling from the jail roof about 1 p.m. Thursday.
