Dan McGwire, who played quarterback at the University of Iowa last year, said Friday that his transfer to San Diego State has been approved and that he plans to begin classes Feb. 1.
McGwire visited SDSU Friday and talked with Coach Denny Stolz. Stolz said he did not believe McGwire had enrolled yet but would not elaborate further.
If he does attend SDSU, McGwire will have to sit out the 1988 season and will have two years of eligibility left beginning with the 1989 season. McGwire, a sophomore, was a backup on the Iowa team.
McGwire announced shortly after Iowa’s victory in the Holiday Bowl that he intended to transfer to SDSU.
