A 39-year-old Orange County Jail inmate who was found unconscious on a cell floor by other inmates has died, apparently of natural causes, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department said Sunday.
Inmate Raul Castrejon, who was found Friday and rushed to UCI Medical Center in Orange, died Saturday, Sgt. R. Burinda said.
Coroner’s deputies completed an autopsy Sunday into the cause of death, but results were not immediately available, Burinda said.
Burinda said inmates in a 60-man dormitory in the main men’s jail in Santa Ana found Castrejon collapsed and not breathing early Friday. Inmates gave Castrejon cardiopulmonary resuscitation before sheriff’s deputies arrived and took over trying revive him until paramedics rushed him to the hospital.
Castrejon was booked into the jail in December. He was charged with child molesting, sheriff’s officials said.
