Firefighters using ropes and pulleys rescued a 42-year-old construction worker from a 15-foot trench after he was injured Friday by a falling pipe.
James Peterson, 42, was listed in guarded condition at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Peterson was working on a pipe inside the trench in the area of Irvine Boulevard and Myford Road when a skip loader struck another pipe nearby, causing the second pipe to fall on him, said Kathleen Cha, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Fire Department.
It took 10 firefighters about 15 minutes to lift Peterson from the trench, she said.
