The Brazilian trainer of a swimmer who died tackling the English Channel was jailed on a charge of failing to assist a person in danger, police sources said. Judith Rousseau, 51, was taken into custody after the death on Tuesday of Brazilian swimmer Renata Aganta, 20, who died of exhaustion 6 miles from the French coast, the sources added. A preliminary investigation showed that Rousseau, who was following Aganta aboard a boat, had refused to heed the woman’s pleas that she was too tired to continue swimming, they said. Officials said Rousseau was ordered jailed pending the fixing of bail.
