Harvey White; Physicist Who Taught on TV

Harvey White, 86, who won awards for teaching physics for high school credit on television. White taught physics at UC Berkeley for 30 years and in 1958 was named vice chairman of the physics department. He was made the first director of the school’s Lawrence Hall of Science in 1960. He taught over WQED-TV in Pittsburgh in 1956 and on the “Continental Classroom” seen nationally on NBC-TV in 1958 and 1959. The televised instructions won White a Peabody Award, a Sylvania Television Award and the Oersted Medal. In Modesto, Calif., on Monday.
