Mary Slaney and Steve Scott, coming off disappointing performances in the Seoul Olympics, were the winners of the Mercedes Mile on Fifth Avenue in New York.

Slaney won the women’s division in 4:20.03, while Scott took the men’s race in 3:53.43.

At Seoul, Scott failed to win a medal in the men’s 1,500 meters, and Slaney failed to get one in either the women’s 1,500 or 3,000 meters.
