Local News in Brief : Times Van Hit by Shots on Freeway
- Share via
Five shots were fired at a Los Angeles Times van Tuesday morning on the Pasadena Freeway in what the California Highway Patrol said was the first freeway shooting incident reported here in several months. No one was injured.
Greg Brown, a driver for the newspaper’s advertising services department, told the CHP that he was northbound in the fast lane of the freeway in the Highland Park area about 6:45 a.m. when a blue Pinto with tinted windows pulled up on the right. Brown said he heard what sounded like backfiring.
He said he then realized that shots were striking the van, so he braked sharply as the car sped off. Brown left the freeway and discovered five bullet holes along the bottom right side of the van. One of the bullets was recovered and appeared to be from a .38-caliber handgun, CHP Sgt. Michael Moses said.
There were no arrests.
