Queen Elizabeth Keeps Royal Cool as Firecrackers Go Off

BARCELONA, Spain — Queen Elizabeth II didn’t flinch today when Catalan nationalists set off firecrackers in a noisy protest as she wound up her state visit to Spain, the first by a reigning British monarch.
Three bangs were heard as the British national anthem was being played to the queen and Spanish King Juan Carlos outside the headquarters of the Catalan regional government. Three more firecrackers went off during the Spanish anthem.
The blasts clearly surprised soldiers standing guard on rooftops. But the British and Spanish royal couples did not flinch.
