No ‘Wine,’ Same Beat

** 1/2UB40. “UB40.” A&M.; Anyone looking for the English reggae octet’s five-year-old version of Neil Diamond’s “Red Red Wine”--a surprise current hit--shouldn’t anguish too much over its absence from this disc: The same loping reggae beat that marks that tune is very much present, as it has been in nearly everything the band has ever done. Less frisky than the last studio album, 1986’s “Rat in the Kitchen,” more tuneful (though less dub-wise gritty) than the band’s early ‘80s efforts, the LP is highlighted by the spunky instrumental “Dance With the Devil” that opens and closes the album and the Chrissie Hynde duet “Breakfast in Bed.”
