A Lebanese woman shot and wounded Maj. Gen. Antoine Lahd, commander of the pro-Israeli South Lebanon Army, an Israeli military official said. Lahd, 61, “was hit in one of the blood vessels in the upper part of his right arm,” spokesman Zvi Ben-Yishai said. Lahd was flown to a hospital in the Israeli port of Haifa, where he was reported in stable condition. Voice of Lebanon radio identified the assailant as Soha Bihara from Deir Mimas in Israel’s self-proclaimed security zone in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese Christian television station in Beirut said Bihara “has been visiting Lahd almost daily in the last two weeks, seeking a job. When she was walking out of his house today, she opened her handbag, drew a pistol, turned around and shot him.”
