Mistaken Identity

Let us hope that Queen Elizabeth II would “not be amused” to see that her beloved Windsor Castle had been captioned as the Tower of London, which is 30 miles east of Windsor Castle, on Page 54 of Traveling in Style (Oct. 23). Not only is Windsor Castle Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite castle, but from its name comes her family name--the House of Windsor.
The House of Windsor name was chosen by her grandfather, the late George V, in 1917 to remove the German-sounding Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, more popularly known as the House of Hanover or Brunswick, from the Royal Family. This beautiful old castle, known for centuries as Windsor Castle, was begun in 1070 by William the Conqueror.
