Ed Asner and Peter Falk team for the first time today in “Midnight Moon at the Greasy Spoon,” a radio production of the final play by the late Puerto Rican playwright Miguel Pinero (7 p.m. on KCRW-FM, 89.9).
The two veteran actors portray the central characters in the 1 1/2-hour presentation of “KCRW Playhouse.” The play focuses on the seedy side of present-day Broadway where pimps, junkies, prostitutes, police and has-been actors wander in and out of a greasy spoon cafe owned and operated by Gerry (Falk) and Joe (Asner).
Pinero was a heroin addict and convicted felon in addition to being the author of the New York Drama Critics Award-winning play “Short Eyes” and 14 other plays. He died of cirrhosis of the liver in June at the age of 41.
