SAN DIEGO — Rancho Buena Vista, in only its second year of existence, has the No. 1 high school football team in The Times’ final San Diego County rankings.
Rancho Buena Vista (10-0), started the season ranked No. 10 and rolled to a 33-9 victory over Fallbrook in its season opener. By midseason, the Longhorns had won five in a row and moved to No. 2.
A victory over No. 1 Oceanside in Week 6 gave Rancho Buena Vista the top spot, and the Longhorns held onto it with victories over El Camino, Ramona, Escondido and San Pasqual. Only El Camino came within a touchdown (26-21) in Week 7.
Orange Glen, with its first undefeated regular season since 1967, finished No. 2. The Patriots (10-0) concluded their regular season with a 19-18 victory over Fallbrook last Friday.
