Rio Hondo College has announced a fund-raising campaign to raise $90,000 needed to build an electronic marquee at the college’s entrance on Workman Mill Road near Whittier. The purpose of the marquee would be to announce college classes and events.
A fund-raising committee formed to raise the money will solicit from numerous sources, including the Board of Trustees and student organizations. The Automotive Technology Department already has planned a raffle.
The committee has asked college employees to sign a pledge that would deduct a small monthly amount from employee paychecks. Private business donors will receive free advertising time on the marquee, which the college hopes to install by next winter, fund-raising chairman Bill Meardy said.
