$1.5 Million Awarded in Brokerage Case: An arbitration panel has ordered Prudential Securities to pay a 74-year-old Florida widow $1.5 million for alleged abuses in handling her brokerage account, according to a newspaper report. Betty Shapiro of Hallandale, Fla., was awarded $1 million in punitive damages and $560,000 to cover the estimated loss in her account, the Miami Herald reported. The punitive award was the third-largest in a securities arbitration case, it said.
