Esther M. Harvey; Retired Music Teacher

Esther M. Harvey, who taught piano lessons in her Burbank home for about 30 years, has died at her residence. She was 84.

Mrs. Harvey died Monday of complications of old age, said her daughter, Sally Ahr of Burbank.

Born Esther Munnis in Cohassett, Mass., she came to California in 1936. After settling in Burbank, she began teaching piano lessons at home in the late 1950s. She continued to give lessons, mainly to children, until her retirement in 1985.

Mrs. Harvey was a past president of the East Valley branch of the Music Teachers Assn. and was a longtime member of St. Finbar Catholic Church in Burbank.

In addition to her daughter, Sally Ahr, Mrs. Harvey is survived by daughters Judy Morgan of Burbank and Mary Jean Balderas of Tarzana; sister Alice Funk of Medford, Ore., and six grandchildren. Her husband, Everett Judson Harvey, died in 1978.

Visitation is planned from noon to 5 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at The Valley Funeral Home, 2121 W. Burbank Blvd., Burbank, which is handling the arrangements.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. A funeral Mass is scheduled at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 3801 Scott Road, Burbank. Burial will follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills.
