Bridgestone to Pour $1.4 Billion Into U.S. Unit: Japan’s giant Bridgestone tire corporation will inject $1.4 billion into Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. to help the troubled American subsidiary pay off crippling debt and ride out the recession. Akron, Ohio-based Bridgestone/Firestone owes $3 billion. The unit, which lost $350 million in 1990, dismissed 500 managers last month. More cutbacks, in both facilities and people, are expected. Bridgestone controls half the Japanese market.
