HUNTINGTON BEACH — A 40-year-old woman was killed early Saturday morning when a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and smashed into her car, knocking it against a brick wall, police said.
Blanca Cruz of Huntington Beach died immediately, said Police Sgt. Luis Ochoa. Police arrested Anthony Talamantes, 25, of Moreno Valley on suspicion of manslaughter and felony drunk driving.
Cruz, who works at McDonnell Douglas, was on her way to work about 6 a.m. Saturday. She was driving northbound on Edwards Street when she reached the Heil Avenue intersection, police said. There, Talamantes, who was eastbound, ran the red light and collided with her 1986 Audi, Ochoa said. The impact pushed her car into the wall and Cruz, who was not wearing a seat belt, died of head injuries, he said.
Talamantes was transferred to Humana Hospital-Westminster for shoulder and head injuries. He was treated and then transferred to the jail ward at Western Medical Center-Anaheim.
Police are looking for witnesses to the crash. Anyone with information should call (714) 960-8811.
