A man found shot to death on southbound Interstate 15 in Bonsall had been mutilated, authorities said Tuesday.
The 30-year-old Yreka man was discovered Sunday by a passing motorist. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, Sheriff’s Sgt. Kate Nolan said.
Sheriff’s investigators said the man, who was not named pending notification of relatives, had been mutilated in an attempt to hide his identity.
Highway patrol officers found several “extremities” scattered in the freeway median, Nolan said. Authorities did not describe the extent of the mutilation.
