Most people get emotional whenever the subject of pizza is raised. And our editorial staff is no exception. Witness a few selected recommendations and comments from some of our more rabid pizza enthusiasts:
- “Pronto, in South Coast Plaza, is the best pizza I’ve had lately. A close second would be the slice at Fedco--hot, fresh and relatively tasty.”
- “My pizza vote goes to Original Pizza on Balboa Peninsula.”
- “Definitely Gina’s in Newport and Corona del Mar.”
- “Pacific Pasta in Huntington Beach makes a seafood pizza that you would kill for.”
- “Nick’s Pizza in Costa Mesa--perfectly spiced sauce, chewy crust and plenty of tasty toppings.”
- “Vinnie’s Brooklyn Pizza Works in Costa Mesa and Placentia . . . Trust me, the guy is an ex-boxer who knows his pizza.”
- “Luparello’s in Fountain Valley . . . sweetest sauce this side of the Hudson River.”
- “Sorry, but there are no good pizza places this side of St. Louie.”
You probably have your own ideas about what makes a great pizza. And some of your favorite pies might not have made our list. If so, please write in and tell us which ones we’ve missed.
