Mexican President Carlos Salinas de Gortari officially inaugurated the Mexican Cultural Institute during a recent visit to Los Angeles.
The institute, officials said, is part of a plan to establish closer links in Los Angeles with the culture and people of Mexico. Located at Olvera Street, the institute will sponsor a variety of cultural programs including art exhibits and dance, music and theater presentations. Classes in Spanish, taught by professors from the University of Guadalajara, will also be offered.
