ROUNDUP : Valley Christian’s Peters Gains 227 Yards in Rout of Brethren Christian

Valley Christian’s Corey Peters ran for 227 yards and three touchdowns in 25 carries Saturday night to lead the Crusaders to a 34-6 Olympic League victory over Brethren Christian at Artesia High School in Lakewood.
Peters paced an offense that rolled up 326 yards, including 277 yards rushing, to lead Valley Christian (7-2, 4-0 in league) to sole possession of first place in the league standings. The Crusader defense held Brethren Christian (7-3, 3-1) to 156 yards offense, only 31 yards rushing.
Matt Marksbury gave Brethren Christian a 6-0 first-quarter lead when he intercepted a pass and returned it 84 yards for a touchdown.
Valley Christian drove right back to take a 7-6 lead on Peters’ two-yard run and David Abbott’s conversion. The big play on the drive was a 47-yard run by Peters.
Valley Christian drove 72 yards to take a 13-7 lead on Aaron Plante’s one-yard touchdown plunge with 32 seconds left in the half.
Peters broke the game open with touchdown runs of 35 and 12 yards in the third quarter.
Jason Chapman ran for a 12-yard score in the final quarter.
