White Sox Considering Chambliss

Chris Chambliss, who spent most of his playing career with the New York Yankees, is a candidate to become manager of the Chicago White Sox, the Chicago Tribune reported Sunday.
Hiring Chambliss probably would please Commissioner Fay Vincent, who has criticized baseball for having only two black major league managers. Chambliss has been voted minor league manager of the year twice in double A, including this season with Greenville of the Southern League, the Atlanta Braves’ double-A affiliate.
John Schuerholz, Atlanta general manager, told the newspaper that he gave permission for White Sox management to interview Chambliss for the job.
White Sox spokesman Doug Abel could not be reached for comment Sunday night. Ron Schueler, White Sox general manager, told the Chicago Sun-Times that he would not confirm the report, but said, “That’s a good name.”
