World IN BRIEF : SOUTH AFRICA : Toll 69 in Week of Gold Mine Violence

Rival black factions at the President Steyn Gold Mine waged a nightlong battle, leaving an additional 29 dead at the huge compound, which has been wracked by violence for a week. The Anglo American Corp., the world’s largest gold mining company, said 69 blacks have been killed and 177 injured in the fighting between Xhosa and Sotho miners.
