DURHAM, N.C. — Cherokee Parks gave top-ranked Duke and a national TV audience an impressive view of the future Saturday in leading the Blue Devils to a 90-70 victory over the Soviet National Team in the final preseason tuneup for the national champions.
Parks, 1990-91 Orange County player of the year for Marina High, scored 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked four shots. He punctuated his effort on an over-the-head dunk with a defender on his back with 1:56 left.
Parks will take over the center’s job from Christian Laettner, who will move to power forward. Laettner, hampered by a leg injury, scored 12 points. He is expected to play when Duke meets East Carolina Monday night.
