Two 13-year-old children were seriously injured Friday after they were struck by a car as they walked across an intersection near their school, under the supervision of a crossing guard, Oceanside police said.
The identities of the boy and girl were not released late Friday.
One was taken to Palomar Hospital in Escondido and the other to Children’s Hospital in San Diego, both by Life Flight helicopter. They suffered serious, but unspecified, injuries, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. at Mesa and Sagewood drives when a car driven by Stanley Barber, 47, of Fallbrook ran into the children while going about 25 m.p.h.--even though many other vehicles had stopped to let them pass, police said.
Charges against Barber are pending, police said.
