Yates Was Crying on Day After Deaths, Doctor Says

An unkempt and agitated Andrea Yates wailed in despair when mental health experts met her in a Houston jail the day after she drowned her five children last summer, a psychiatrist testified as the defense began making the case she was too ill to be held responsible for the crime.
Harris County Jail psychiatrist Melissa Ferguson said she prescribed a powerful sedative for Yates, who told police she killed her children to punish herself for being a bad mother. She could face the death penalty if convicted.
