Whites still comprise more than two-thirds of the sworn personnel in the Los Angeles Police Department, but more than half of those at the department’s entry level rank, Officer I, now are from minority groups. The chart below spotlights the personnel breakdown for selected ranks. There are three levels of officer, two of sergeant, three of detective, two of lieutenant and three of captain.
