A sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded another deputy in a darkened East Los Angeles street as they searched for a man with a gun, authorities said Thursday.
Deputy Cornelius Healy, 29, was in satisfactory condition at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena with wounds to his left arm and abdomen, Deputy Richard Dinsmoor said.
Moments after deputies responded to a call about a man shooting a gun at 734 S. Gage Ave., shooting erupted and another deputy, who was not identified, fired his shotgun once, accidentally hitting Healy.
Arrested later for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon was Ernesto Hernandez, 42, Dinsmoor said. Hernandez was jailed at the East Los Angeles sheriff’s station on $100,000 bail.
