K mart Corp.’s third-quarter net income advanced 15% from last year to $126.1 million. Sales totaled $6.36 billion, up 7%. On a comparable store basis--based on stores open in the period both this year and last--sales were up 2.4%, K mart said. The Troy, Mich., retailer credited the results to customer response to lower shelf prices, a strengthened once-a-week advertising program and various merchandising programs.
