An Agoura man has been arrested on suspicion of setting a fire which destroyed an Agoura Hills ranch market Saturday night, according to authorities.
Jim Garcia, 51, was found standing near Ringles Ranch Market in the 28000 block of Agoura Road just after the 8:40 blaze broke out, said Lt. John Love of the Malibu sheriff’s station. Garcia was arrested on suspicion of arson and is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail, Love said.
A sheriff’s deputy happened to be driving by the market “when suddenly the entire storefront burst into flames,” Love said.
“He asked for help, then he saw Mr. Garcia right next door there,” Love said. “He investigated and brought him into custody.”
Damage to the ranch market was estimated at $500,000, Los Angeles County fire officials said. The fire was extinguished in about half an hour, authorities said.
