OUTLOOK
Last year’s third-place team should challenge for the league title with its potent backcourt. The Chargers’ new point guard, 5-foot-1 Ryan, could put Edison over the top. Ryan, a transfer from Trabuco Hills who earned All-Pacific Coast League honors as a sophomore, joins last year’s starting backcourt of Paje and Iwamasa, who will move to forward. Iwamasa, a four-year varsity starter and the team captain, averaged 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists last season and also can play center. Paje, a 5-4 guard, returns after making 50 three-pointers last season as a sophomore. She averaged 10 points and was the team’s leading free-throw percentage shooter. Colclough is the Chargers’ third returning starter, and is a two-year varsity starter who averaged seven points last season. Edison’s top newcomer is Oriza, the most valuable player from the junior varsity team. “We’ve peaked too early before, winning holiday tournaments, but this season, everything is geared toward league play. We want to be playing our best in the first week of January.”
